Nathan Nicholls

My name is Nathan Nicholls; One may call me Nate for short. I also have an alias and that is recyclesculptor. I am 46 years old and have fathered 3 and raised 4 children. I have lived in my own home at 483 Bremen Rd., Waldoboro, Maine, 04572 (mid coast) for 25+ years. I may be reached at 207-832-4938. My email is recyclesculptor@yahoo.com

I own and operate a home occupation, called Recycleart, which is an indoor and outdoor gallery of recycled metal sculpture and developing Sculpture Park. I also have several online galleries where my work can be viewed my current favorite being http.myspace.com/recycleart

I also own and operate a hand picked clean wild Maine low bush blueberry business known as Starry Hill Farm.   Most wild low bush blueberries are processed by machine, though many are harvested via the use of a hand held comb or rake.   I harvest with the hand held comb as it minimizes damage to the fruit. The fruit is then processed by winnowing machine (a machine that blows out the chaff) and is then, in my case, hand picked clean as the berries go down a (pick over) conveyor belt.   I developed my own equipment and process.

I am also a self-taught welder and sculptor of recycled found object metal. I see features in junk that remind me of significant portions of things in natural life that I develop in varied scale into my sculpture. I prefer rust as a patina and only paint pieces if it appears necessary in order to enhance the resemblance of the piece to that of the subject matter I seek to represent. My goal as an artist is to convey an open-minded observance of recycling in all aspects of life. A well-known phrase is: “life is what we make of it,” (unknown source). I wish to convey: so is our junk.

I have been and done many things in my life from racecar mechanic to woodlot maintenance, from heating installation to Chef. I consider myself a jack of all trade, master of none. I became a responsible parent prior to leaving high school and now that my children are grown, I am seizing what I see as a once lost opportunity to further my education through the University Of Phoenix, On Line.

I appreciate all guidance offered.
