Dave Irvine
The Gnarled Branch
David Irvine who is the man behind The
Gnarled Branch, always tries to pursue
ways to make his artwork stand out from the
rest. This is not only reflected in his
style and themes but as well with the type
of materials he selects.
Thinking green and utilizing "The 3 R's" -
recycle, reuse and reclaim, David
makes affordable art that is fun and wacky
as well as reducing possible landfill.
Scratched and damaged vinyl records are
transformed into paintings mounted merely with a
pushpin, discarded wooden furniture become
decorative art pieces, beer caps and old magazines
are combined to make cool pins.
Please
contact the artist directly for any purchases or commissions.

Each pin made is a unique piece combining a bottlecap, old magazine or junk mail some resin and a pin mount.
The images and captions are cut out separately and glued in place, then filled with resin. They are funny, spicy or thought provoking.
A tedious craft but the end results are well worth it!

I sometimes cannot believe what I see on the curb waiting for pickup. A perfectly fine solid wood night table with possibly a loose handle
sitting there--and all that is required is a new screw or some minor repair. I do any repair , sand and prep and start painting. I do not
mass produce my designs and keep each piece 'fresh'. After painting, and several coats of an environment friendly sealant its ready for
market. It gives me alot of pleasure seeing what once a table found in the garbage, cleaned up, repaired and painted end up
as an art piece in someone's home.
Each record used was far too damaged or scratched to play properly anymore and was destined to end up as landfill.
Usually plucked from curb by the boxful, vinyl records are readily available and make for a unique medium. A pushpin
through the middle is all that is required to mount- no expensive framing
